Too Faced Cosmetics Hangover 3-in-1 Primer and Setting Spray | Review

When Too Faced announced this product, my heart almost exploded to see that the Hangover line was expanding. One of my tried and trues is TF's Hangover Replenishing Face Primers and I cannot even remember how many tubes I've blown through. Don't get me wrong, this is a 3-in-1 spray so it's not like I was expecting it to perform exactly like the Hangover primer because, well, that would be a bit redundant. However, because of the primer's performance, I definitely had high expectations for this product to live up to the standard of the predecessor in the Hangover line. To find out if it lived up to the challenge, keep on reading, glow-getters!

This product comes in a standard unicarton that is similar to the design of the Hangover primer. The front is, well, the front; it contains the general information about the product including the size and several claims. The first side provides application instructions and when to apply (before, after, or throughout the day). Additionally, TF included consumer report studies on conclusions that were made during the study, including that 100% reported that their face was smoother, appeared more hydrated, makeup didn't transfer, and that their makeup looked more flawless. The opposite side shows these directions in Spanish. Lastly, per the usual, the back includes ingredients and the usual distribution information.

How to apply...
"Shake well. Hold bottle 6-8 inches away from face and mist directly onto skin."

When purchasing this product, I was a little skeptical at first because it has fragrance in the formula and I have relatively sensitive skin. However, this fragrance is very light and reflects the coconut scent you would expect to find with the advertised coconut water based formula. I first used this as a primer to prep my skin, but I used it on top of TF's Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. I normally will never use a primer spray on it's own; it just doesn't do the job for me to heavily improve wear longevity or provide the smooth canvas I opt for unless I'm going for a very natural and lightweight day with minimal makeup on. This sprayed very evenly and in a fine mist to cover my face in 6 or 7 pumps, plus it left my face feeling even more moisturized than it normally does with the OG Hangover primer. My favorite first impression of this spray was that it left my face feeling supple and slightly tacky: a feeling I aim for with all of my primers because it helps foundations adhere to the face and improve wear length.

When using this as a setting spray, it applied just as well as it did as a primer (obviously). It was an even spray over my face and left a faint, light scent of coconut which was is so perfect for summer. For those of you who just had Marc Jacobs Re(cover) Perfecting Coconut Setting Mist pop into your mind, I'm gonna tell that this stuff not only performs exponentially better, but smells much better. Right after application, this spray made my face look slightly more radiant yet still natural so I had a healthy and nourished glow.

I've been testing this product out for a little under a month since it's launch date, and it has yet to fail me. I have seen an improvement in how my makeup looks and stays even 12 hours in on a hot and humid summer day. I've noticed the best performance when using a regular primer (like I mentioned above), topping it with this spray, and then finishing off the look by setting with this coconut-y dream of a product. It makes my face feel refreshingly moisturized, healthy, and provides a natural glow that is extra sought after this time of year.

In regards to it's mix and performance with different products, I've used it with all of my go-to foundations for the summer time including the radiant light to medium coverage formula of bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to a matte full coverage foundation like the tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation. I've noticed a longer wear in basically all of my foundations and usual looks, plus a better overall glow and finish.

As a gal with combination skin, I'm pretty impressed with how this product performed. While this product is oil-free, I didn't expect it to aid in any oil control whatsoever. However, my T-zone was slightly less oily than it normally would be (I usually start seeing oil peek through around 6 to 7 hours in with my normal routine) and with this product I experienced slightly less oil and got a bit more time before the shininess began to appear. The best part, however, is that my makeup didn't transfer off of my nose in nearly as short of a time like it normally does even when I don't have sebum (oil) issues.

Lastly, this product is right where it should be in its' price point. Check the table out below to see price comps:

Oh girl, you can see this baby glowing from space. I love this product and continue to be impressed with it the more I use it. Actually, it is slowly making it's way into my holy grail list and that is not an easy feat, especially having only used this product for about a month. I've recommended this product to quite a few people and they've loved it, all with different skin types and routines, so this seems to be a versatile product and I'd consider it suitable for everyone. It smells great, contains a wonderful list of ingredients including coconut water and juice, pro-biotic based ingredients, and skin replenishing agents. The only issue that some people might experience is sensitivity to fragrance but personally, I have not, and I do have relatively sensitive skin which has been irritated by fragrance in the past. As someone who isn't always a fan of Too Faced Cosmetics' products, I really this is the best product they've come out with in a long, long time.

If any of ya'll have tried this product, I would love to hear your thoughts and even if you haven't I would love to hear about what your current favorite setting spray is. Thanks for reading, glow-getters!

  1. Ah I'm glad this spray lived up to your expectations! It actually sounds pretty similar to the Rimmel primer + setting spray (definitely has the same coconut scent!), I wonder if it could be a good dupe?
